Help Thy Neighbor

Protect Thy Neighbor

Everyone who chooses to own and/or carry a firearm may one day be forced to make the decision to intervene (or to not intervene) in a fight or conflict between or among other people. Regardless of how you think you will (or should) respond, the most important thing is to prepare yourself ahead of time by knowing the law and the potential consequences that could follow if you choose to involve yourself in a third party conflict while carrying.

Peruta v San Diego County

Supreme Court Declined Conceal Carry Case

The United States Supreme Court declined to hear  Peruta v. San Diego (a conceal carry case), which involved San Diego resident Edward Peruta, who challenged his county’s decision to deny him permission to carry a concealed firearm outside his house. Despite the support of two Supreme Justice Members, the case was rejected due to a policy that a case needs to be approved by at least four justices in order to get on the Supreme Court’s docket.

Exercising 2nd Amendment Rights at OU Basketball Game

On December 19, 2017, Don Spencer (President of the Oklahoma Second Amendment Association) purchased a ticket to the OU basketball game with the intention to attend the game while carrying a (legal) pocket knife into the basketball arena. OU has a “policy” that does not allow anyone to bring in knives or any type of weapon into the arena. Upon entering the arena, everyone must pass through a security station much like you would do at the airport. Everyone must walk through a metal detector and empty their pockets to ensure that no one will bring in contraband or weapons. We have been receiving reports from OK2A members that OU security personnel have been forcing people to return to their vehicle(s) to store their pocket knives in their vehicles because of their restrictive policy regarding knives and other weapons.

Senator Dahm on the Right to Bear Arms

Oklahoma State Senator Nathan Dahm on the Right to Bear Arms

It’s no secret that Oklahoma State Senator Nathan Dahm is a die-hard constitutionalist and a strong believer in our nation’s founding principles. OK2A has worked hard alongside Senator Dahm to successfully fight for Second Amendment rights in Oklahoma, and we hope that his influence will only grow stronger as he continues to capitalize on every opportunity to stand up for our God-given constitutional rights here in Oklahoma. We are fortunate to benefit from his continual influence at the state capitol.

Including the OK2A in decisions such as these is always a great step forward on the return of all your rights. The new policy was approved by a majority vote of elected county officers at a regularly scheduled meeting of the Board of County Commissioners of Canadian County on December 11, 2017. The amendment supersedes the current policy in the Canadian County employee personnel policy handbook.

Nonprofit Super PAC Gives Nevada “C-” On Gun Control

Following the Las Vegas attack, many are scrutinizing federal and state gun laws. The Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence gave Nevada a C- on gun control. Oklahoma is among the 10 worst states for strong gun control laws, earning the grade of an F. The Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence and Americans for Responsible Solutions are the group behind the rankings. The ARS is a nonprofit super PAC that lobbies for stricter gun laws. The grades are based on several factors including gun death rate per 100,000 people. In that category, Nevada came in at 14.9 and Oklahoma at 18. Nevada does not require the registration of firearms, does not limit the number of firearms that may be purchased
