OK2A Legislative Update

Three more OK2A request bills have been sent to Governor Fallin. Awaiting her signature are SB35, SB40, and SB397, all of which passed this Senate last week. The Governor’s signature is all that is needed for these three bills to become law. We request polite, encouraging phone calls to the Governor’s office on behalf of these bills. The Governor’s telephone number is 405-521-2342.

  • SB35 will allow active duty members of the military to carry a handgun using their military ID card as their license.
  • SB40 is the “Point, Don’t Shoot” bill which protects anyone who points a firearm in a self-defense scenario. Currently, a person can be charged with a felony for pointing but not shooting a firearm, even if it is in self-defense.
  • SB397 repeals one of the most draconian gun laws in the country. Under current law, it is a felony (with a $10,000 fine) to carry a handgun onto any bus, even if you own the bus. This bill allows for a person with an handgun license to carry on public buses (excluding school buses) and leaves policy for private buses to be determined by the owner of the bus.

Another bill awaiting the Governor’s signature is HB2324 by Rep. Coody. This bill would allow the taking of feral swine on private property by helicopter. OK2A supports this bill, as well.
