Don Spencer, President of OK2A, was interviewed by the “The Epoch Times” on March 17th to get his opinion on SB669 and the House’s version of the same bill that proposes that illegal aliens should be allowed to obtain Oklahoma drivers licenses.

The bill has passed through the Senate Committee and and will be heard on the Senate floor March 21st. The author of the bill is Oklahoma state Sen. Michael Brooks-Jiminez, a Democrat. He is also an immigration attorney.

Spencer says the crux of the issue is Brooks-Jimenez’s use of the term “fair share.” He said the problem isn’t tax revenue but a violation of the law.
“After the word ‘illegal,’ nothing else matters,” Spencer said.

During Spencer’s conversation with the on-line newspaper, he confirmed that Gov. Stitt has expressed his support for the bill and a letter Stitt sent to ‘The Epoch Times’ listed the potential benefits and safeguards in the law.

Currently, 16 states and the District of Columbia allow non-citizens to drive and 19 states plus the District of Columbia allow illegal immigrants to drive.

What the Bill’s Opponents are Saying

The potential bill’s critics believe passing this bill is a slippery slope to granting illegal immigrants the right to vote.

“Giving illegal aliens a driver’s license is beyond absurd,” said Don Spencer, President of the OK2A Association to ‘The Epoch Times’.
