Canadian County Employee Handbook Policy Changed

Canadian County Employee Handbook Policy Changed

The Canadian County modified their employee handbook to allow employees with a valid handgun license to carry while on the job. Including the OK2A in decisions such as these is always a great step forward on the return of all your rights. The new policy was approved by a majority vote of elected county officers at a regularly scheduled meeting of the Board of County Commissioners of Canadian County on December 11, 2017. The amendment supersedes the current policy in the Canadian County employee personnel policy handbook.

Nonprofit Super PAC Gives Nevada “C-” On Gun Control

Following the Las Vegas attack, many are scrutinizing federal and state gun laws. The Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence gave Nevada a C- on gun control. Oklahoma is among the 10 worst states for strong gun control laws, earning the grade of an F. The Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence and Americans for Responsible Solutions are the group behind the rankings. The ARS is a nonprofit super PAC that lobbies for stricter gun laws. The grades are based on several factors including gun death rate per 100,000 people. In that category, Nevada came in at 14.9 and Oklahoma at 18. Nevada does not require the registration of firearms, does not limit the number of firearms that may be purchased

OK2A Legislative Update

Legislative Update: Three More Bills Go to Governor

Three more OK2A request bills have been sent to Governor Fallin. Awaiting her signature are SB35, SB40, and SB397, all of which passed this Senate last week. The Governor’s signature is all that is needed for these three bills to become law. We request polite, encouraging phone calls to the Governor’s office on behalf of these bills. The Governor’s telephone number is 405-521-2342. SB35 will allow active duty members of the military to carry a handgun using their military ID card as their license. SB40 is the “Point, Don’t Shoot” bill which protects anyone who points a firearm in a self-defense scenario. Currently, a person can be charged with a felony for pointing but not shooting a firearm, even if it is in self-defense.

Senate Committee Rejects Car Carry

Senate Committee Rejects Car Carry

The Oklahoma City Chamber came out in opposition to HB2323, again disseminating misleading information about another gun bill (we will release more information about this over the weekend). Unfortunately, seven members (two democrats and five republicans) of the Senate Public Safety Committee decided to join the OKC Chamber in trampling the 2nd Amendment rights of Oklahomans. For those who occasionally get aggravated at OK2A-Association for calling republicans on the carpet who don’t support the 2nd Amendment, this vote is one more example of republicans failing to honor their oath to support the Constitution.
